Our History

Candler County Hospital
Candler County Hospital is a 25 bed, Joint Commission Accredited, acute care hospital. We are governed by a 7 member Hospital Authority Board who in turn appoint a Chief Executive Officer to oversee the daily operations of the hospital.

The hospital opened in 1961 and expanded in 1971 to our current size size. In 1973 the hospital opened the first renal dialysis unit to be located in a rural area of Georgia. We have continually strived to maintain an atmosphere of progress and development. In 2004 the hospital started participating the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Critical Access Program which help provide critical health care needs to rural area's.

New Additions
In 1998, a completely new $1.3 Million Emergency Department and Out-Patient Services area housing two trauma rooms and four emergency care rooms opened. In March of 2000, in response to a steadily growing need to expand our ability to care for patients, we moved into a new Administrative Services addition. This addition enabled us to make more rooms available to care for patients.

We have upgraded much of our radiology and surgical equipment over the past two years, and through our Foundation have completely renovated and upgraded many of our patient rooms.

Our active medical staff consists of twelve physicians specializing in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Podiatry, General and Vascular Surgery. Additionally, we also have a extensive staff of Consulting and Courtesy staff members which represent a growing number of specialist providing services to our area.
